Webmaster's notes:

Note: Sometimes Louisiana soldiers enlisted in other states.

If you find your relative on this web page and have a photo (or a better photo) of them, I would be glad to add it. Additionally, notes sent in by web site visitors providing further information on these soldiers (for example: date of birth, birthplace, parent's names, date of death, location of death, and burial location) will be added to the entries on this page. Please tell me how you are related to the soldier that you are providing more information about and send the scan of the photo and information to: (I won't be accepting email probably for the rest of the year because I'm very, very busy! I have been swamped with requests.). Back to WWI - Louisiana (non-annotated version)

Note: No parishes were listed in the book, however, I used the US County Resources at RootsWeb (Find the County for a U.S. Town or City) to find out what modern-day parish a particular city was in. When searching for any city that starts with "St." use the completed spelling "Saint". You need at least two letters in the search dialog box.

To find parishes of cities not listed try viewing these:

USGS GNIS - query form - Select "Louisiana," "populated place," and type in the city name in the "feature name" dialog box, or type in a parish (county) name in the "County Name" dialog box for all cities in that parish.

Louisiana Main Page - Index to City and Town Data
Louisiana State Map

See if the soldier is listed here using various spellings or just 2 letters of the surname:

American Battle Monuments Commission, ABMC - It appears that quite a few Louisiana soldiers enlisted in other states, but I have no way of knowing since there could be more than one soldier with the same name. So, I'm only added notes where there appears to be a very good match. Additionally, there are soldiers in the this database from Louisiana that were not listed in the book, but I have not listed them here.

War Dead - Search the World War I database. Note: Sometimes Louisiana soldiers enlisted in other states. However, I'm only listing ABMC data were the soldier enlisted in Louisiana.

Jeffery Jehu Pevy < [email protected] > of Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana wrote on  June 04, 2001:
Thanks for the picture and info on Lewis E. PEVY. I am researching the PEVY family. Lewis E. PEVY was my grandfather's cousin. Lewis E. PEVY was one of the first two soldiers killed in WWI from Webster Parish, and so they named the Legion Hall after them "Wiley-Pevy" Post 74. Up until now, I couldn't find where he was killed. I noticed that he was interred at Aisne-Marne Cemetery, but I have found his grave marker and military marker at Pine Grove Cemetery in Webster Parish, Louisiana.

Webmaster's comment: I would guess that his headstone is symbolic in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Webster Parish just as it is on the "Tablets of the Missing at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery" since there was no body to actually bury. The government may have paid for all these type burials for the soldiers' families just as if there was a body.

Actual Pages of Book - Text

Here are pages 419 - 422 that contain just the text portion about the Louisiana soldiers. Louisiana soldiers are also listed in the Index to the Supplement that is in Volume III on Pages 505 and 506. While I have tried to copy this material accurately, please review the actually text that I have transcribed to be sure. The data does contain some obvious misspellings and some that at first glance appear to be misspelled that aren't.
