James Henry Tope

James Henry "Jim" Tope was born on February 22, 1840 in Arkansas to Mr. Tope and Frances Unknown/Coker.  He died February 20, 1924 and is buried in Whitsett Cemetery, Whitsett, Live Oak County, Texas. 

James Tope married on May 7, 1868 in Oakville, Live Oak Co., Texas to Dorcas Salina Winters.  Dorcas Winters was born in 1849 in Walker Co., Texas to Benjamin Franklin and Sylvania Adeline (Cude) Winters.  She died September 27, 1926 and is buried in Whitsett Cemetery, Whitsett, Live Oak County, Texas.

James and Dorcas Tope's children are:

Thomas Benjamin Tope born about 1869 in Texas

Sylvania C. Tope born about 1872 in Texas

James William Tope born July 25, 1877

James Tope's mother Frances married for the 2nd time to a Mr. Moore about 1841 and in March 1842 John Moore was born.  John Moore, James Tope's half brother, also served in the 2nd Texas Cavalry Company K and married Rhoda Ellen Winters daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Sylvania Adeline (Cude) Winters.  James' step brothers David Yarbrough and Lorenzo Dow Yarbrough also served in Company K.

James Tope also filled out a affidavit for Dow Yarbrough when he filed for his military pension.  You can view Dow's pension application here.
