Mathias Noblin

1825-1862

Mathias Noblin was born about 1825 in Rockingham Co, NC, the son of William James Noblin and Susan N. Court. In 1833, when Mathias was about eight years old, the family moved to Houston Co, GA. There, Mathias and his eleven (known) siblings (six boys, six girls) grew to maturity. On 16 Dec 1852, Mathias married Mary M. Chancy, who was born about 1834 in Georgia.

In the late 1850's, Mathias and four of his brothers moved to Dale Co, AL, where they took up farming in the rich wiregrass area. Mathias and Mary had two known children, William B. Noblin, born about 1857 and Mary F. Noblin, born about 1858, both born in Dale County.

Mathias enlisted in the Confederate States Army, Company G, 33rd Alabama Infantry Regiment on 8 Mar 1862 at Daleville, Alabama and was mustered in on 29 Mar 1862 at Greenville, Alabama. On Nov 4, 1862, he was killed in the line of duty when the troop train in which he was riding wreck near Cleveland, TN.

Andrew Jackson Noblin was a younger brother to Mathias and enlisted at the same time in the 33rd Alabama. A. J., as he was apparently known, was severely wounded at Perryville, KY in a battle, and presumably died there.

Information provided by Al Noblin.
