of the
68th Intelligence Squadron

The 68th Intelligence Squadron was first constituted as the 958th Signal Radio Intelligence Company on 9 October 1942, and activated on 1 November 1942 at Drew Field, Tampa, Florida. The 958th was later redesignated as the 8th Radio Squadron, Mobile (8 RSM). The 8 RSM transferred from the Department of the Army to the Department of the Air Force on 1 February 1949, and was assigned to the USAF Security Service (USAFSS). The 8th had served in the Pacific Theater, and later in the Continental US, and moved to Brooks AFB, Texas, on 23 February 1949. The USAF directed that all USAFSS units conform to the 4-digit standard Air Force unit designation pattern; as a result, the 8 RSM was inactivated on 8 May 1955. It was disbanded on 15 June 1983.

On 1 October 1993, the 8 RSM was reconstituted and consolidated with the 6906th Electronic Security Squadron, and redesignated and activated as the 68th Intelligence Squadron. The 6906 ESS was designated and activated as the 6906th Security Squadron at Brooks AFB, Texas, on 1 October 1977, with assignment to the Air Force Communications Security Center (AFCOMSECCEN). On 1 August 1979, the 6906th was redesignated as the 6906th Electronic Security -Squadron (6906 ESS). The 6906 ESS was assigned to the 6960th Electronic Security Wing (later Continental Electronic Security Division) on 1 February 1980. On 30 April 1991, the USAF converted the 6906 ESS from a temporary Major Command Controlled unit to a permanent Air Force Controlled unit. The 6906th was assigned to the 693d Intelligence Wing on 1 October 1991.

The 68th Intelligence Squadron was assigned to the 67th Intelligence Group on 1 October 1993.
