This page is in memory of and appreciation of our fathers, Manuel Herbert Strong and Cecil Lester Weshinskey who were both career army, and in honor and appreciation of my husband, Walter, and my daughter, Judy. They all have instilled in us a love of America and freedom and a sense of duty and responsibility.
MSgt. Cecil Lester Weshinskey, U.S.A. Ret.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1926 with his first duty in Ft. Bliss, TX with the horse cavalry. This photo was used in a Breese, Illinois, newspaper article written in 1943, when he was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. On World War II's D-Day, he participated in the landing at the Normandy beach in France. Among the medals he received was the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and Combat Infantry Badge. He retired in 1949 after service in Texas, the European Theater, and Wisconsin.
SFC Manuel Herbert Strong, U. S. A. Ret.
This photo was taken in Tokyo, Japan in 1951. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1936 with his first duty in Utah. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. On World War II's D-Day, he participated in the landing at the Normandy beach in France. Among the awards he received was the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He retired December 1960 after service in the Phillipines, the European Theater, Utah, Japan, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Korea, and Texas.
PO3 Marion Walter Weshinskey, U. S. C. G.
My husband, Walter, who spent ten years in the U. S. Coast Guard. This photo was taken while Coast Guard Gun Boat Mendota was at Subic Bay for repairs during service in Viet Nam in 1968 attached to the U. S. Navy 7th Fleet. He received a Combat Action Ribbon with one Silver Star and Viet Nam Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars. He also served on C.G. Gun Boat Escanaba and C. G. High Endurance Cutters Chincoteague and Spencer and Cutters Ingham and Absecon. While he was on the Escanaba, the gun boat was on harbor entrance patrol at U. S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuba Missile Crisis in 1963. He served in Viet Nam, Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
Pvt. Judith Paige Weshinskey, U. S. A. R.
This photo was taken in August 1996 while Judy was in boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. During the time she was in the U. S. Army Reserves, Judy sucessfully handled a multitude of hazardous tasks, including survival training, hand-to-hand combat training, night and day weapons training which required crawling with rifle and gear beneath live .308 cal M-60 machine gun fire inches above ones torso. Judy made short work of the gas chamber as well. Judy earned the following awards for her accomplishments. U. S. Army Sharpshooter Badge M-16 Rifle with the following qualification bars attached: Hand Grenade (M-33 fragmentation) Expert and Portable rocket launcher. The Good Lord along with the guardian angels of her grandfathers saw fit that she was returned to us safely and with Honor, without combat.
