This page is made possible through the generosity of Scott McKay, webmaster of the Tenth Texas Infantry. Scott made a trip to St. Louis while researching Civil War history. In the process of photographing the markers of his soldiers of the Tenth Texas, he also photographed markers of other Texas soldiers. Scott generously shared the photos for the 24th and 25th Texas Cavalries.Scott wrote on a post on the Civil War Message Board:
“ These are the men of those regiments also captured at Arkansas Post, but were too ill to make it to Camp Butler. They were left at the St. Louis Hospitals, later dying there.
“ In my travels, I made a pilgrimage twice to that cemetery to photograph the headstones of the men of the 10th Texas Infantry, but felt compelled to photograph the other ‘Arkansas Post’ men. So along with the ten men of the 10th Texas Infantry, and the above-mentioned 24th/25th men, I also photographed men of the 15th/17th/18th Tex Cavalries, 6th Tex Infantry and a couple of the 7th Tex Infantry.”
The men of the 24th and 25th Texas Cavalries were brigaded with the men of the 10th Infantry throughout most of the war, thus Scott’s interest in those other units.

Scott sent photos of the markers of six of our Company B soldiers who died in St. Louis and are buried in Jefferson Barracks. I have placed these photos on their biography pages. They are: David Henry Parker, Israel Hewitt, James McCarley, Julius Gayle, Thomas Chambers, and W. B. Lawrence.
Two other soldiers of Company B who died at Gratiot Street Prison and are buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery are Thomas Golding and J. T. McGary.
