Officers at Home.—Lieutenant James M. Carver, of
the 104th Regiment, reached his home in Doylestown on
Tuesday evening last, having received a furlough for a
short time from the military authorities near Richmond.
He contracted a severe illness while engaged in construct-
ing signal towers along the lines before Yorktown, which
was not improved by subsequent marching and exposure
on the 12th of this month he was obliged to leave his com-
pany, then at Williamsburg, and was conveyed to a hos-
pital on the York river, where he remained several days.
He at length managed to get permission to come home to
regain his health. Since his arrival here he has rapidly
improved, and he hopes to rejoin in the regiment very soon.
He looks very much reduced in flesh. Captain Warren
W. Marple, of the same company, also reached his father’s
residence, near Davisville, in the early part of last week.
He has been very ill with typhoid fever, and unable to
perform his duties for two or three weeks past. We hope
to hear of his speedy recovery. Lieutenant J. C Robin-
son, also of Company C. has resigned his post and returned
home, in consequence, we believe, of failing health. Com-
pany C is thus left without any commissioned officers in
the field at present: Lieutenant ___ ___; of Company
F, commanded by Captain Alfred Marple; has been de-
tailed by the Colonel to take charge of the company until
the return of one of its own officers.
