From the 104th Regiment.—We print this week a

long and very interesting letter from an intelligent member

of the 104th Regiment, giving a detailed account of the ex-

pedition to John’s Island, near Charleston, in which it was

recently engaged.  The statements it contains may be re-

garded as authentic.  We have accounts of the same expe-

dition from other correspondents, but cannot print them all.

The wounding of Col. Davis appears to have made a deep

impression upon the men, and universal sympathy for him

in his misfortune is expressed on every side.  At the time it

was received he was in the extreme advance of our line, bus-

ily occupied in reconnoitring the position of the enemy

through a field-glass.  Lieut. Burke, of Company G, who

was killed, had received his commission but the day previous,

and had just mounted his sword and shoulder-straps.  He

was an excellent soldier.  He received a severe wound at

the battle of Fair Oaks, more than two years ago, but recov-

ered sufficiently to take his place once more in the ranks.—

Ely K. Walton, of Company K, was struck on the cartridge-

box by a large piece of shell, which bruised him seriously

but not dangerously.  Sergeant Theodore glasgow and Pri-

vate William Wiley of the same company were slightly haurt

by pieces of shell.  Private Musselman, of Company D, one

of the sharp-shooters, was wounded.  Sergeant William Lex

and Samuel Wensel, of Company F, and Markley Rapp, of

Company B, were also more or less injured.  Surgeon Rob-

inson, as already stated, was captured by the rebels.  All

the accounts of the expedition we have seen give high praise

to the 104th for its Brave and efficient services.  Surgeon

Robinson has been heard from since his capture.  He with

other Union prisoners, was taken to Macon., Georgia.  Pro-

motions have recently been made in the 104th Regiment, as

follows :—Orderly Sergeant Levi Rosenberger, of Company

D, to be Second Lieutenant, Orderly Philip Burke, of Com-

pany G, to be Second Lieutenant, since killed on John’s Is-

land ; Orderly James McGrea, of Company I, to be Second

Lieutenant.  Private William Carter, of Company K, for-

merly of Company I; deserted from the regiment recently,

having gone off on the Fulton on her last trip but one, and

his absence was not discovered until it was too late to recap-

ture him.

The losses in the 104th Regiment during the last expedi-

tion are given by a correspondent of the Tribune as follows :
