In the attack on James’ Island, it was Col. Davis’s

brigade which was ordered to land at night to hold the

shore and cover the landing of the other troops.  When

he returned from James Island, General Gilmore selec-

ted him for the second post of honor, to command all the

forces on Folly Island.  This is important, as it is our

base of supplies, and to lose it, all our operations before

Charleston must cease.  We think General Gilmore must

have received a copy of the Democrat also.—Doylestown

Democrat.

Yes, we think it is very probable that Gen. Gilmore

has received a copy of the Democrat—for Col. Davis

has just been superseded in the command of Folly

Island, at which he was must “decurred.”  A man

who glories in the publication of a paper which up-

holds the cause of Jeff. Davis and his fellow traitors,

ought not to be entrusted to any command in the

Union army.
