LOCAL AFFAIRS.
REPORTED FOR THE INTELLIGENCER.
A Bucks County Regiment.--Captain W. W. H.
Daivs, commander of the Doylestown Guards during their
late campaign of three months, visited Washington last
week and received authority from the Secretary of War to
raise a regiment of volunteers to serve for three years or
during the war. He obtained from the War Department
full authority to form his regiment of ten companies of
one hundred men each, and to muster them into the
United States service himself, by single companies. He
will then obtain from the Quartermaster at Philadelphia
all needful equipments and supplies. A camp of instruc-
tion will be formed at or near Doylestown, probably at
the old exhibition ground, where the officers and men will
be throughly drilled and instructed previous to their de-
parture for the seat of the war. Capt. Davis is authorized to
provide a battery of light artillery, to be attached to his
regiment, together with a full band of music. It is desira-
ble that as many of the companies as possible shall be
formed in Bucks county, so that only those necessary to
full up the regiment may be drawn from abroad. Those
who design to form companies for this regiment should go
to work without delay. Colonel Davis is a competent and
experienced officer, and those who go under his command
may be sure of being well provided and cared for during
their term of service. Throughout his recent campaign,
he was deservedly popular among all with whom he came
in contact, and he will experience no difficulty whatever
in filling up his ranks from other counties, should the en-
listments in Bucks be insufficient. A meeting to advance
the project will, be held in Court House on Friday
evening.
