Of the eighty officers and men, composing the first enlistment of the 104th Regiment, more than one half of them bore com- missions in the armies of the United States before the war was over. Two reached the rank of Brig- adier-General by brevet, four were Colonels, one falling at the head of his regiment at Antie- tam, one Lieutenant - Colonel, |
four Majors, sixteen Captains, nine Lieutenants and two Sur- geons. Nearly all of them reached their rank through regular pro- motion. |
