Area Folk To Help

Wounded Soldiers

Sept. 3, 1861—In a letter from

a correspondent in Davisville, the

writer says that the ladies from

Hartsville, Davisville and Rich-

borough are “preparing a lot of

shirts, drawers, handkerchiefs,

wrappers and slippers for the use

of the wounded and sick in the

hospitals in Washington.”

They ? also “getting up a

large bowl of dried beef, preserves,

jellies, and other delicacies that

can be relished by those occupy-

ing the soldier’s pallet.”

An Thursday meetings were

held at Johnsville and this place

for the organization of a company

to join the regiment forming un-

der Col. W. W. H. Davis, and

measures were taken indicative of

the speedy accomplishment of

this purpose.”
