The 104th Regiment.—We have received a letter

from a soldier of this regiment, giving an account of its

recent movement.  Prior to coming North it was employed

in guarding the railroad between Jacksonville and Baldwin,

in Florida.  The regiment left Jacksonville on the 24th of

August, arriving at Hilton Head on the morning of the 25th.

The men then debarked, and remained until next morning,

when they were taken on board the steamer Fulton.  The

vessel was greatly crowded, as several hundred men beside

the 104th were on board.  The Fulton arrived at Fortress

Monroe on the afternoon of the 28th, and in the evening

proceeded up the Chesapeake, reaching Alexandria on the

29th.  The regiment subsequently marched to Fort Ward,

a place about three miles west, of Alexandria, where at last

accounts it was still located.  It is almost unnecessary to say

that the boys of the 104th are highly pleased with their

transfer to Northern soil.
