Recruiting Up County.--Enos R. Artman and

Jacob Swartzlander have been engaged for a week or two

past in holding war meetings and obtaining recruits for

the Ringgold Regiment in Quakertown and the neighbor-

ing villages.  Their efforts have been attended with some

success, although they have had to contend with many

discouraging circumstances.  At Milford Square their

meeting was disturbed by a set of disloyal fellows who

did all they could to dissuade young men from enrolling

their name for the service.  “At Richlandtown there was

a large meeting, which was addressed among others, by

Rev. Jeremiah Schindel, of Lehigh County.  The people,

however, could not be aroused from their apathy by the

eloquence of Mr. Schindel, and not a single recruit was

obtained.  Meetings are to be held at Applebachsville on

Thursday, at Hagersville on Friday, and at Sellersville

on Saturday evening, to advance the cause.  Upwards of

60 men have been enroole, more than fifty of whom will ac-

tually go into service.  Mr. Artman is sanguine of filling

up the company at an early day.  It is worthy of remark

that while that section of the county is swarming with

holiday soldiers, but two of them in all have enrolled

themselves in this company for the service of their coun-

try.  Mr. Artman is an intelligent and energetic young

man, and Lieut. Swartzlander, who will command the

company, is a first-rate disciplinarian and an experienced

soldier.
