Local Miscellany.—A few days before the depar-
ture of the Ringgold Regiment, our daguerreotypists did
a lively business. They were fairly run down with cus-
tomers from camp who wanted their likenesses taken—
On Monday and Tuesday scores were turned away, it be-
ing impossible for the artists to accommodate one-fourth
of the persons applying to have their pictures taken.—
Many a volunteer spent his last dollar for his daguerreo-
type, which he handed over to his wife, or a friend, or a
sweetheart, as a memento of himself, to be sacredly kept
and preserved during his absence.
Previous to leaving Doylestown, Col. Davis purchased
a fine brown mare of Abraham Fretz, of Bedminster, to be
used by himself for service in the field. Quite a number
of horses were offered to the Colonel in response to the ad-
vertisement issued by him.
Mrs. Alice Leedom and Miss Sibbit, of Upper Make-
field, accompanied the Ringgold Regiment on its trip to
Washington. The husband of the first named lady Nor-
ris Leedom, is a member of Company G, and Miss Sibbit
has a brother in the same company. They go with the
object of nursing and attending to the wants of the sick
belonging to the regiment.
On Tuesday evening last, the night before the departure
of the Ringgold Regiment, Captain Edward L. Rogers, of
Company A, wedded one of the fairest damsels, of whom
Doylestown can boast. The ceremony was performed by
Rev. Mr. Andrews who tied the knot in the best and
most permanent style. The happy couple were after-
wards serenaded by the Ringgold Band; and early on
the morrow the brave young bridegroom was on his way
to Dixie’s land.
Robert Holmes, who has been Quartermaster Sergeant
of the Ringgold Regiment since its organization, was ap-
pointed Second Lieutenant of Company A before the Reg-
iment left Doylestown. Orderly Sergeant Thomas P.
Chambers, of Company K, was appointed Quartermaster
Sergeant in place of Mr. Holmes.
