Norfolk City va May 25th 1865

Dear wife  I take ? my penn in hand

to let you know that I am still well 

I hope this may find you and the

Children injoying the same grate

blessing this morning  the town is in

grate, Commotion  this is election day

here to elect Congress and assembly

and other officers for the town  the

negrows is to vote the Coper head

party ? and difficulty seems to

arise at home  I wood not like negros

voteing here  I am in favour of it  the

Republican Candidate could not be

elected with out the darky vote

and any thing to bring about peace 

we are still garding the military

prison with about two hundred

in mates  the asortment is negrows

white men and rebbles  it is a hard

looking Crowd
