Promoted to Sgt. Jan. 1, 1864. He was wounded at Peach Orchard, Va., while the picket were discharging their guns after duty, by ball glancing from a stump, striking him in left leg, which caused permanent injury. His wound was treated in camp. At Fair Oaks, Va., the concussion of a gun broke the drum of his right ear, which caused permanent injury. At John's Island, S. C. He was slightly wounded by gunshot in right hand, but did not go to hospital.

He was a member of General Ransom Post, No. 69, Department of Oregon, G. A. R., of which he is a Past Commander and has held office as Officer of the Day. He was a Past Commander of Babcock Post at Beaverton, Oregon. He was a member of Washington County Veterans Association, of which he was the Secretary.

He held office as Justice of the Peace in Rice County, Kans., for eight years, and at Beaverton, Oregon, for about ten years. His wife was an honored member of General Ransom Corps, #47, W. R. C.

His brother, Sylvester, served in the 12th Pa. Cavalry in the Civil War; his grandfathers, Joseph Morton and Samuel Hazen served in the War of 1812, and both were in the battle of Lake Erie.
