Description

He was 5 feet tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair (5, 6, 7).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 25 September 1861 (1, 2, 3, 5). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Casner (5). He was mustered in as a private in company K, by Captain Dye (1 [private], 2 [musician], 5). He was appointed musician on 8 October 1861 (4).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (13).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 26 December 1863 (1, 6, 7). He was enlisted for three years, at Bealton, Virginia, by Lieutenant Carpenter (6, 7). He was mustered in by Lieutenant Swan (6, 7).

He was wounded on 12 May 1864 at Spottsylvania Court House, Virginia (1, 14).

On 14 August 1864, he returned to the regiment from hospital (8).

On 1 September 1864, General Warren detailed him as an orderly (2, 9).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 3).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in the 20th ward (post office Germantown) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with Frederick Neiman and others (10). He was a journeyman house carpenter (10).

In 1880, he was living at 477 Handcock Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (11). He was living with his wife Cornelia, and four children (11). He was a carpenter (11).

On 9 April 1881, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (12).

In 1890, he was living in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). He had a right hip wound (3).
