In 1860, he was living in Milton Borough, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with Daniel and Elizabeth Stutsman (presumably his parents) (12). He was a boatman (12). He had attended school within the year (12).

He was a fifer when he was enlisted (9, 10 [musician]).

Description

He was 5 feet 0 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair (9, 10 [5'5"]).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service on 6 November 1861 (1). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Parsons (9). He served as a musician in company F (1).

On 19 April 1863, he was sent to a hospital in Washington DC (6).

He was detailed as regimental butcher on 24 September 1863 (3, 8).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 24 December 1863 (1, 10). He was enlisted for three years, at Bealton, Virginia, by Lieutenant W H Carpenter (10).

He was detailed by Lieutenant Colonel Sinex for duty in the quartermaster department, and ordered to report to Lieutenant Lentz, on 19 February 1864 (4, 9).

On 12 September 1864, he was relieved from duty in the quartermaster department, and ordered to report to his company for duty (5, 11).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1).

After the war

He applied successfully for a pension on 26 January [perhaps June] 1880 (2).
