He was enrolled and mustered into service as a private on 12 October 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 4, 7, 9). He served as a private in company B (1).
He was wounded on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia (1, 7). On 4 May 1864, he was discharged because of those wounds, at Washington, D.C. (1, 4 [discharged 13 Dec 62], 8, 9).
The regiment received an official report of his death, and reported on 8 February 1863 that he had died of his wounds in hospital at Washington, DC (3). However, Lentz reported on 9 July 1864 that the regiment had been informed that he had been discharged (2), and the morning report of 14 February corrected the error (5).
He applied successfully for a pension (4).
