Gene Beals (1999)ABOUT THIS SITE:

This website honors the Collinsville veterans of nine wars who were laid to rest at local cemeteries and abroad. They are the generous contributions of Gene Beals who began researching his own family history and over a period of ten years also researched the veterans who were laid to rest in the Glenwood cemetery and other Collinsville’s cemeteries.

At the start of this site, Gene had researched and applied to have seventy grave markers placed in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Sixty of those were Union soldiers who fought in the Civil War. A ceremony to honor the “Boys in Blue” was held on Saturday, the 15th of May, 1999. A ceremony honoring Collinsville’s lone “Confederate Veteran”, William H. Thompson was held the previous year on Saturday, the 16th of May 1998. Now nearing May of 2007, Gene has added an additional eighteen Civil War Veterans at Glenwood, twelve at the Holy Cross cemetery, eight at the St. John cemetery and ten at SS Peter & Paul cemetery. Gene has also included fifteen WW I veterans, fifty WW II veterans and one Korean War veteran to be honored and remembered bringing the total to one hundred and ninety-seven Collinsville veterans.

Impressed with his research and selflessness, I volunteered to create and present his research on the internet so others could also enjoy and hopefully find their ancestors. I am as others, indebted to Gene and kindly thank Joyce Franz for her editorial expertise.

It is my hope that you enjoy this website and find it helpful in your own research. If you can add information or would like to share photos of your ancestors which you've found on our site, please feel free to contact myself or Gene Beals. Sincerely - pdp
