Bro. Robert M. Berry, residing with his daughter, Mrs. G. A. Miller, 1026 F Street, Eureka, Cal., was removed from earth to a higher life, on Monday January 27, at 4:15 a.m., aged 65 years, 7 months and 3 days. The deceased was born in Chamois, Osage county, Missouri, March 1, 1838. He enlisted in the army for three years service from his home, October 6th, 1861, in company I, 26th regiment Missouri volunteer infantry and was elected sergeant. He was in the battle of "Corinth," and "Lookout Mountain" and other hard fought battles, and when so disabled as to be no longer serviceable, he was honorably discharged January 13, 1863. Returning to his home in Missouri, he afterward married Miss Sarah Jane Hull of his native county and raised a family of eight children, three of whom, Maggie, 3 years old, Margaret, 5 years, and Mrs. James Nix, have, with their mother, his beloved wife, who died August 13, 1888, at Colton, Cal., preceded him into the great unknown, leaving to mourn his two daughters, Mrs. G. A. Miller and Mrs. Ernest Miller, and two sons, Robert and John Berry all of this city and James Berry of Portland, Oregon. Sergt. Berry has been a member of the Masonic order for 44 years, under whose auspices he was buried. He has been a great sufferer, but died calmly and peacefully with his two sons, tow daughters and their husbands with him. In his early life he united with the Christian church, and died trusting in his Savior.
