Civil War Reunion (1890's?)

1890 Reunion

This reunion possibly took place on Toms Creek, Johnson Co. KY. The photograph was donated by Val McKenzie . Val's great-grandfather Isaac Dixon, served in the 14th KY and is pictured in the back row, 4th from the left.

Others that have been identified are Andrew Fox - front row on left, Rueben Patrick - front row, 4th from left, Wyatt Martin -front row, 2nd from right.

Other possibles are James Lee Wheeler - back row, 3rd from right, Joel D. Long - back row, 2nd from right, George McKenzie, back row, far right and Elijah Judd - front row, 4th from right.

The person in the front row on the extreme right who appears to be wearing a memorial or encampment ribbon could be Joseph K. Dixon. Joseph K. was Judge in Johnson County during this time period and Val has been told he arranged for this cannon to be brought to Paintsville for 4th of July celebrations.
The cannon pictured is the famous Williams gun that Captain Reuben Patrick "foraged" single-handedly out of Humphrey Marshall's camp in Magoffin Co. in 1863. This feat made Captain Patrick famous and it is said that the loss of the gun "rankled deep in the breast of Gen. Marshall". It was displayed for years in Magoffin Co. KY and later taken to the KY Military History Museum where it still is on display.
