How To Order Civil War Military Files and Pension Application Files for both Union & Confederate Soldiers.  This page will tell you the kind of form you will need to obtain files from the NARA and how to order pension application files.  Make sure you follow the directions for either Union or Confederate because the directions are different.  You can request forms from NARA at this email address [email protected]  Make sure you write the name of the form in the subject line, and include how many forms you will need and your name and address in the message of the email.  Forms from the NARA do have a expiration date and the form must be submitted before the date expires.  For more information about NARA see the link "Civil War Records."

Civil War Records National Archives and Records Administration - Kinds of records available and how to order from NARA.  NARA holds military records for both Southern and Northern States.  Confederate Civil War Pension Applications can not be obtained from NARA.  You will need to go to the state level for these files.  The next 2 links contain information about how to obtain and write for these types of files.  For a $15.00 fee you might try the form at the Harold B. Simpson Library History Complex down below.
Index to TEXAS Confederate Pension Applications - search for veteran and spouse pension applications and how to order pension applications from the state of Texas.  It should be noted that the NARA does not have Confederate Pension Applications.  These applications were filed in Southern Counties and each Southern State should have copies available.
