He enlisted on Sept. 23, 1861 at Ft. Brown Texas. He was 20 years old when Capt. Donelson enlisted him. His horse was valued at $ 60 and his equipment at $ 20. Even though he had his own horse he is listed in Jan. 1862 as riding a " Fort Horse."

Records show that he reenlisted on June 26, 1862 at Helena. His horse is now valued at $ 100 and his equipment at $ 52. He is being paid $ 24.40 for the use of his horse.

On the Muster Roll of June 30, 1863 he is listed as sick in Hospital at New Iberia. His last 2 records of Aug. 10, 1864 and Sept. 1864 both indicate that he is on duty as a teamster . (driving a wagon)
