Thomas Jefferson Box was born 1826 in Beaufort, South Carolina.  He died December 1879 and is buried Lavaca County, Texas

Pvt. Thomas Jefferson Box

Thomas enlisted on December 27, 1861 at Ft. Brown in Brownsville
Texas. His enlisting officer was Captain John Donelson.  He was
paid $ 1.60 for the use of his personal horse.

Muster Roll dated February 1862 - he has not been paid since
enlisting.
Muster Roll dated Sept., 1862 -  present

His last record is a  " Disability Discharge ".  It notes that he
was born in South Carolina and is 32 years old. He is 5' 9" tall
with dark hair, dark eyes and dark complexion. It notes that he
has been unfit for duty since June 13, 1862.  It was signed by
Captain John Donelson.

( Note, while there are no records indicating so, men were usually
given this type of discharge when they had been severely wounded or
had a serious illness.)
