Captain John Donelson

 

John  Donelson enlisted in Co. K officially on September 23, 1861 in Ft. Brown Texas. He enlisted  for a period of 12 months and was 30 years old when he joined the Second Cavalry. His horse was valued at $ 125 and his personal equipment at $ 25.  Before he left the Second Cavalry he had been promoted to the rank of Major.

On the November 1861 Muster roll he is shown as due pay from enlistment and is paid by Capt. J. A. Settle. On the April 1862 Muster Roll it is noted that he is away on recruiting service.  On the October 31, 1862 Muster Roll is notes that he reenlisted on October 8, 1862.

The Muster Roll of September 1862 record it notes that he is at Camp Perdenalis , 10 miles west of Fredericksburg, Texas. He has been appointed at Provost Marshall of the area.

The Muster roll of June 1862 indicates that he has been on sick leave since Jan. 20, 1863.  The record of February 1864 notes that his resignation has been accepted by the Trans-Mississippi Department effective as of June 13, 1864, on account of a disability.
