Edward D. Hastings - CO K 2nd Texas Cavalry

Edward D. Hastings

Edward applied for his pension from Harris Co., TX. He enlisted in Co. K on June 26,1862 at Escondido. His enlistment officer was Capt. John Donelson. His military record shows that on the muster roll for Feb. 28,1863  that he was detailed to service in the hospital at Columbus, Texas as an attendant.  His records show that on June, 1864 he was still at the hospital, but was under treatment for inflammation of the eye.  He must have been released shortly after that, because in July 6, 1865 his records indicate that he was paroled as a prisoner of war.  On the muster roll of Oct. 31, 1862 the Cavalry valued his horse at $ 40.00 and his equipment at $ 40.00.  He was paid $24.40 by the Cavalry for use of his horse.
