Goldsmith Walker

 

Goldsmith Walker was born March 29, 1842 in Tippah County, Mississippi the son of John Walker and Jane Burges/Burgess.  Goldsmith and his family moved from Tippah Co. MS to Lavaca Co., Texas along with several other Walker family members while other Walker family members stayed in Tippah County, MS.  Goldsmith served in the 2nd Texas Cavalry Company K.  He died on February 4, 1920 in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Comanche, Texas.

 

Goldsmith married 3 times.  His first two wives were the daughters of Matthew Dockery and Sarah Ann Stott.  Goldsmith married 1st Rachael Dockery (1844 - 1866) on April 26, 1865.  Rachael died in childbirth with her child and they are buried together in a single grave in the Old Moulton Cemetery.  Goldsmith married 2nd Louisa Dockery.  She was born October 21, 1849 and died February 32, 1885.  She had 11 children with Goldsmith.  The last child, she died in childbirth with and they are buried together also in Old Moulton Cemetery.

 

Goldsmith married 3rd, his second cousin, Catusa "Kitty" Frances Walker.  She was the daughter of Thomas Walker and Sarah Frances A. Wilson.  Kitty was born June 21, 1849 and died February 1929 and is buried at Oak Hill in Comanche Co., Texas.  She and Goldsmith had 3 children.

Capt. Goldsmith Walker

His first record under Co. K indicates that he enlisted  on Sept.
23, 1861 at the age of 19. He enlisted for a period of 12 months.
The Cavalry set a value of $ 60 on his horse and $ 20 on his
equipment. His records indicate that by Nov.1, 1861 he is on
detached service the Lt. McRae. He is a private at this time. In
January of 1862 he is paid $ 39.20 by Capt. J.A. Settle for the
use of his horse.

On October 31, 1862 his records indicate that he has reenlisted at
Helena and his enlisting officer is Capt. Donelson. His last three
records give very little information. June 30, 63 he is on sick
furlough. Another June records indicates that he is now a
Lieutenant and a record on Oct.1864 lists him as a Captain.
