Henry
Westerman
Henry
Westerman enlisted on September 23, 1861 at Ft. Brown which is in Brownsville, Texas.
He was enlisted by Capt. John Donelson for a period of 12 months. Henry used his
personal horse and the Cavalry set a value on it of $35 and a value of $15 on
his equipment. At the time of enlistment he was 20 years old.
On the Muster Roll of Nov. 1, 1861 records indicted that he is due his pay from
his enlistment date and is now being paid by Capt. J. A. Settle. (see note
below)
One the Muster Roll of Jan. 1, 1862 Henry is paid $ 39.20 for the use of his
horse. Additional note states that he is due extra pay as a "Hay
Attendant" in Ft. Brown.
The February 1862 Muster Roll notes that he is on " detached service on Rio
Grande since Feb.25." He is listed on the April Muster Roll as
"present". No further records on him were found.
Note: Captain John A. Settle is a member of the "Field and Staff
Service." I believe that they worked out of the Headquarters in San
Antonio.
