John Beard - CO K 2nd Texas Cavalry

 

 

 John Beard

 

Pvt. John Beard at the age of 23 enlisted on May 23, 1861 in San
Antonio. He was enrolled by Capt. Samuel J. Richardson. He
enlisted for a period of 12 months. The Cavalry set a value of $
150 on his horse.

(Note - John Beard was part of a company of men that were
originally enrolled by A. W. Crawford on April 19, 1861 at
Marshall Texas for a period of 12 months. This company of men then
reported to Col. John S. Ford and all the men were then
mustered into Confederate service by Capt. Sayre.)

Muster Roll dated Feb, 28, 1862 - On detached service at Camp
Hudson.

Muster Roll dated April 19, 1862 - Absent - Received $ 53 bounty. -
On furlough to March 31, 1862- Regiments at Marshall Texas. In a
second record for April he is noted as now being in  Capt.
Donelson's unit.

Muster Roll dated October 31, 1862 - indicates that he has
reenlisted  in Capt. Donelson's unit on June 26, 1862. He is paid $
24.40 for the use of his horse, which the Cavalry now values at $
65 and his equipment at $ 50. He is marked as present .

Muster Roll  June 30, 1863 - Absent without leave since July 23,
1863.
Muster Roll February 1864 - Present
Muster Roll  May 1864 - on furlough as of May 20.
Muster Roll  July thru September 1864 - On extra duty as teamster.
Muster Roll November 1864 - Detached Service at Galveston.
Muster Roll  February 1865 - Absent without leave since Feb. 1,
1865.
