 John Hill

 

1st. Sgt. John Hill enlisted in Capt. Donelson’s Mounted
Volunteers on September 23, 1861 at Ft. Brown Texas.  He was 40
years old at that time. The Cavalry set a value of
$ 60.00 on his horse and $ 15.00 on his personal equipment.

Muster Roll dated January 1862 shows that he is due his regular
pay from enlistment.  He is at this time paid $ 39.20 for the use
of his horse.


Muster Roll dated February 1862 notes that he is on Detached
Service escorting prisoners to San Antonio.


Muster Roll of October 1862 shows that he is paid $ 24.40 for the
use of his horse. His horse is now valued at $ 100.00 and his
equipment at $ 70.00

Register Card -  " Discharged on April 23, 1863."   He is paid $ 72.00 

by  Capt. Milby.

His discharge notes that he was severely wounded in the right
shoulder on August 10, 1863 while on duty on the Nueces River near
Ft. Clark. His discharge notes that he is 5’ 11’ tall, blond
complexion and blue eyes. His occupation before enlisting is a
farmer.
