Additional Information: There are two sets of military records on Marion. The first shows him as Pvt.Marion Winters, his commanding officer is Capt. James W. Winters. His organization is the Reserve Co.of Oakvill Pr. Live Oak Co.Tx.  He enlisted on Aug. 5, 1861. This is evidently a volunteer militia that was formed to fight indians.

His next record is from the 2nd Tex.Cav.- Co.K. On the Muster-in Roll he is listed as 17 years old. He enlisted on Sept. 23. 1861 at Ft.Brown, which is in Brownsville, Tx. by Capt. John Donelson. He enlisted for a period of 12 months. The Cavalry set a value of $49.00 for his horse and $10.00 for his equipment.  On the muster roll of Jan.1, 1862 he was paid $37.20 for the use of his horse. He is still due his pay from enlistment at this time. He was paid by Capt. J.G. Little. On the muster roll of Oct.31, 1862 it states that he "Died on Sept. 27 at San Antonio." He evidently had just reenlisted at Helena by Capt.Donelson. His original enlistment had just expired.  Helena is in Karnes County. The Cavalry at this time set a value of $112.00 on his horse and
$35.00 on his equipment.
