Milton P. Watkins - CO K 2nd Texas Cavalry

Milton P. Watkins

Milton enlisted on Sept. 23, 1861 at the age of 22. He enlisted at Ft. Brown Texas under Capt. John Donelson. His horse was valued at $ 60 and his equipment at $ 20.

On the Muster Roll of February 1862 he is listed as on detached duty at Santa Rita on the Rio Grande River.

On the June 30, 1863 Muster Roll he is listed as in Hospital, wounded at Bayou LaFourche. He evidently was wounded and taken prisoner, since a later record indicates that he was taken prisoner on June 23, 1863 near Thibodeaux, Louisiana.

There is some confusion in his records after this, or he was taken prisoner twice. On Feb, 1864 he is listed as a prisoner.  In Aug. 1864 he is noted to be on furlough as of Aug. 12.  His parole as a prisoner of war is dated Aug. 10, 1865.  This would seem to
indicate that possibly he was taken prisoner twice.  His parole indicates that he was a resident of St. Louis, Mo.
