Patrick Smyth - CO K 2nd Texas Cavalry

Patrick Smyth

Patrick first enlisted on Sept. 23, 1861 in Brownsville Texas at Ft. Brown. His enlistment officer was Capt. John Donelson. He was 28 years old when he enlisted. On the Muster Roll of Jan. 1862 it notes that he was paid $16.00 for the use of his personal horse, but at that time the records indicate that he is riding a government horse. There is no indication on what happened to his horse. He is due his pay since enlistment. On the Muster Roll of Oct. 31, 1862 he has reenlisted at Helena which is in Karnes County. Capt. John Donelson is his enlistment officer. At that time the Cavalry set a value of $80.00 on his horse and $15.00 on his equipment. On the Muster Roll of June 30, 1863 he is listed as on sick furlough. A later Muster Roll in August indicates that he is still on sick furlough.
