Samuel J. Walker

Samuel enlisted on June 26, 1862 while the company was stationed near Helena Texas. He was enlisted by Capt. Donelson. The Cavalry set a value at that time on his horse at
$70 and his equipment at $ 35.  He was paid  $ 24.40 for the use of his horse.

In Jan 1863 he is reported to be in the Hospital at Columbus Texas.

On a Muster Roll dated June 30, 1864 it notes that he is on detached service with Col. Shoalwalter expedition as of April 19, 1863.  By September 10, 1864 he is on another detached service, this time as a courier at Galveston as of Aug. 10, 1864.

Although not reported where he was captured, one record states that he was paroled as a prisoner of war on Aug. 10, 1865. His parole papers indicate that he was a resident of Lavaca County.
