Thomas F. Williams - CO K 2nd Texas Cavalry

Thomas F Williams

Thomas F. Williams enlisted in the 2nd Cavalry. on September 23, 1861. He was 18 at the time and enlisted for a period of 12 months. Capt. Donelson was his enlisting officer. The Cavalry set a value on his horse of $ 60 and his equipment at $ 15.

The November 1, 1862 Muster Record states that he " deserted on October 26, 1861, taking one carbine.

Jan. 1, 1862 - he is listed as deserted. " Ordering arms at $ 14. "  (I assume this is the value of the carbine he left with.)

There is a " Regimental Return " ticket of May 18, 1864. He evidently enlisted in Walker County in the 2nd Cavalry. Regiment in Co. B.

The following records are all listed in Co. B.

Muster Roll of May 1864 -  Listed as prisoner of War.

Muster Roll of July 1864 - Deserted from furlough.  (Note: this is sometimes misleading, they are frequently listed as deserted just because they are late in returning from furlough. This man was evidently just released or escaped as a prisoner and frequently they were very ill upon release.)

There is one other document, which is difficult to read that indicates that he was discharged on Sept. 6, 1865 and is living in Walker County.
