Pvt./ Sgt William Van Pelt
He enlisted in Co. K on Jan.8, 1862 at Ft. Brown Texas under Capt. John Donelson.
On the Muster Roll of Feb. 1862 it notes that he is on detached service as a guard on the Rio Grande at Santa Rita as of February
25, 1862.
By October 1862 he has reenlisted at Helena. He is paid $ 24.40 for the use of his horse which the Cavalry values at $ 75.00 and
his equipment at $ 40.00. He is now listed as a Sergeant.
On his last record he is listed as " killed in action on June 21, 1863.
The place he was killed is not given, but it is most likely LaFourche Crossing since most if not all of the 2nd Cav. is there
during that time.
